8th Annual oSTEM Conference


Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics is pleased to invite you to the 8th Annual Conference in Houston, Texas.

We look forward to hundreds of our members from across the country coming together for this four-day conference experience, taking place November 15-18, 2018 at the Westin Galleria Houston. Join us in a celebration of diversity across all fields.

Beginning in 2011, the oSTEM Annual Conference has brought together diverse students and professionals from various STEM fields in the interest of professional development and the creation of safe and inviting places to study and work in the sciences. The 2017 conference saw more than 700 students and professionals in attendance.

We are excited to announce that registration is now live for our 8th Annual oSTEM Conference in Houston! Head on over to our registration page to get registered.
 

There are several new and exciting things happening to the conference programming this year! Check out what you have to look forward to:

  • Hackathon: Back by popular demand is the hackathon! Be sure to register for the Thursday/Friday hackathon tackling a need for the LGBTQ community. All experience levels are needed! Visit our hackathon page for more information.

  • Expanded Programming: We’ve expanded our available programming to include a session Friday evening prior to dinner. This session starts at 5:00 pm on November 16. We’ve also continued and expanded our programming for professionals.

  • Relevant and Exciting Topics: We’ve worked hard this year to make sure our programming content is relevant to you. We’ll have presentations on the social implications of AI, challenging family dynamics, mental health, being Asian-American and LGBTQ+, technical demos of “elementary education-level” robotics, and more!

Our 2018 Annual Conference Awards are now open! Nominations will be closed on October 15th, so go nominate the incredible LGBTQ people, organizations, and chapters you know soon.

The oSTEM Conference Poster Session is intended for undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdocs to showcase their research to other conference attendees. Anyone performing academic or industry research is invited to submit a poster for consideration. Awards will be given out for the highest scoring undergrad, graduate, and postdoc posters at the Saturday evening awards ceremony!​ Poster submitters will be asked to stand with their poster from 4:00 to 5:00 pm and explain their research to interested attendees and judges during the Career and Graduate Fair Expo.
